Christ in the Old Testament

And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.
–Luke 24:27

It began as a dismal journey. They were so busy commiserating, His approach almost went unnoticed. Little did they realise that what they would hear over the next seven miles would completely change their lives forever.

As Jesus walked on the Emmaus road with two of his disciples he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning Himself. Suddenly everything that had been happening began to make sense. Full of new-found excitement they confessed, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road?’

What did Jesus say to them? What did he explain?

The Old Testament isn’t a book of rules, or a book of heroes. The Bible is most of all a story. There are lots of stories in the Bible, but all the stories are telling ONE BIG STORY…

  • It’s an adventure story about a young hero who comes from a far country to win back his lost treasure.
  • It’s s love story about a brave prince who leaves his palace, his throne – everything – to rescue the ones he loves.
  • It’s THE story of Jesus Christ and the salvation God offers through him.

Every story in the Bible whispers his name.  He is like the missing piece in a puzzle – the piece that makes all the other pieces fit together – and suddenly you see a beautiful picture!
